Sarah Diligent - Sustainable Floral Mechanics
Sarah Diligent from Floribunda Rose has always been about sustainable and considered floral design right from the beginning when Sarah was carving her own way of environmentally friendly floral design without compromising beauty or aesthetics. Through networks like “Flowers From the Farm” sourcing of British grown blooms with a low carbon footprint has become a little easier since Sarah first started with her vision of natural design. Since starting out she has made a name for herself advocating for more considered floral design practices. In her first Interview for “The Horticulturist” she shares her unique journey which you can read up upon right here.
From learning the ropes of floristry and creating a successful sustainability-focussed floral design studio herself Sarah has been able to teach and guide new floral designers that value sustainability at their core through her flower school: “More people have been coming to the studio looking to learn how to create floral designs in a more sustainable manner.” Sarah says.
But besides her expanding business she has now set out to share her self-taught knowledge on foam-free floral mechanics in a brand new book: “It became very clear that there was a need for a clear, concise handbook outlining how to create sustainable mechanics.”
Together with William Mazuch, a florist and colleague to Sarah whom she met at the garden museum in London where both exhibited designs for the New Covent Garden Flower Market’s British Flowers Week in 2018, Sarah is turning their inspirations and ideas into reality:
“William brings with him a skill set different from my own, which means that between us, we have a lot of different skills, these and more besides are needed to make this book a reality.” Sarah adds: “We’ve learned so much through this process!”

Both have chosen to create a crowdfunding campaign through the platform “Kickstarter” to be able to self-publish and create a book as close to their vision as possible. But besides pledging for her new book on foam-free floral mechanics Sarah has a few tips how to be more considered and aware as a business and as a customer:
TIPP 01
“One of the most urgent changes is to cut down on single use plastics. Use locally sourced flowers and foliages.”
TIPP 02
“Clients can ask for seasonal flowers, and ask about the sustainability of a floristry studio or shop. I think being transparent is something customers will value”
TIPP 03
“Dried flowers are on trend this year, and of course people want to bring natural things into their home over the winter to celebrate with beautiful things.”
