Violeta Gladstone - Directing Flowers

Violeta Gladstone - Directing Flowers

New trends come and go in the floral industry as quickly as in fashion. But what if you had something that wouldn't be influenced by trends, forecasts and opinions:

Violeta Gladstone from Barcelona has found it and it is called being true to yourself.
She is a graphic designer, story telling floral stylist and multimedia artist sticking to what she likes and that is exactly how she doesn't even come close to the box, we are always told to think out of.

With her graphic design background she is directing flowers moving freely between seasonal shifts, styles and creates arrangements, installations and artistic projects that leave any trend behind elevating her own craft to stand out amongst contemporary floral design, if we had to put a label on it.

But it wasn't until her mother unexpectedly developed an early Alzeheimer´s disease, that she put her career in graphic design on hold to care for her family, including raising her children and a self-care trip to the Netherlands she was invited to, to realise that flowers were what gave her the most joy: “After that trip I started exporting with flowers as a medium, until today.”

Inspiration is not an issue for the Barcelona based designer: “It could be anything: an incredible piece of fashion, a curious looking vegetable, a kid playing with leaves or even how the waves read the shore. Anything.” With her easiness and sense of play she taught herself techniques and methods that suit her own business. Being curious and having the will to be self-employed helped her to learn all the ropes, by practising and honing her skills.

“My process of creating depends a lot on how I am feeling. It is mainly an explorative process: Exploring colours, combinations and form.” Violeta´s emotional way of designing and directing originates from her graphic design studies enabling her to transform ideas into a visual piece that is without a distinct style but her own.

It is her unique way of seeing and projecting ideas visually that make her creations distinct for others.
“I usually have an idea of what I want to do and I just go for it”.

Besides her contemporary twists Violeta is known for her sustainable mechanics and foam-free designs to respect nature in her daily practice like she learned form her childhood trip to the mountains, that she also teaches on workshops and 1 to 1 sessions.
With installation work and edgy bouquet design, Violeta hosts workshops that elevate floral design as well as teach a new way of looking at flowers altogether.

As an advocate for self-empowerment she deeply believes in not worrying about what others think: “Do what you feel, pardon yourself and never stop exploring.” Violeta adds: “This is my FFF year:
Filter, Focus and F**k off.” It is indeed her sense of humour and experimental spirit that led her to building up a successful floral-design and styling studio in Barcelona.

Her modern and refreshing attitude and visual edge is also what led her to being represented as a production designer by Marty&Johnny a european agency for artists, where she is able to explore her craft and directory skills even further with many exciting projects coming up “There are many things planned that I can´t tell you about right now, but keep your eyes peeled”.
